Kathak Dance Instructor

Nighat Chaudhry

Nighat has choreographed and performed her own dance pieces nationally and internationally, to great acclaim representing Pakistan as a Cultural Dance Ambassadors. She has also enjoyed success as an actor on the mini screen and received the Nigar Award, for her lead role in “Maigh Malhar” a media award for her outstanding performance, for Best Actress and the Faiz Ahmad Faiz award for using Faiz’s poetry in kathak dance interpretations.

With a Master’s in Dance education and a diploma in choreography she has been active as a professional Kathak dancer for over three decades. Her remarkable interdisciplinary journey in the world of dance also encompasses her work on women’s rights, the deconstruction of popular religious narratives, and the discourse of biopolitics in contemporary Pakistani society. For her exceptional contribution, she was also awarded the prestigious “Pride of Performance” an award that is bestowed by the Government of Pakistan to recognize people with notable achievements in their respective fields.

Nighat Choadhry’s remarkable dedication to Kathak dance, her immersion in eastern mysticism, and her ability to convey the essence of her culture through her performances make her a true ambassador of art and culture.
